Last Thursday, the Lady Devils traveled to Uwharrie Charter in Asheboro, for the second round of the state playoffs. The entire game was a tough fight, and Swain was behind 11 points in the final quarter of the game but kicked it into overdrive to make an incredible comeback.

In the last few seconds, the score was 58-56 with the Eagles leading two points, as Swain went for a buzzer beater to tie the game, but the shot just fell short.

“This basketball season was a battle. These girls and to learn a completely new offense and defensive system. I thought we lost a few games through the year we should have won, but that’s the growing pains of a new program,” Coach Joshua Griffith said.  The Lady Devils suffered a devastating two point loss but can be proud of great improvement over the season that proved hard work did pay off.

Mazie Helpman finished with 20 points for the game, Maddie Spates with 12, and Savana Smith with 11.

“Towards the end of the season, I could see the growth these girls were making. I knew if we could peak at the right time these Lady Devils could be a tough outcome, playoff time. The Lady Devils set a higher standard for the program by reaching the 2nd round of the playoffs for the first time in many years. I am more than proud of this group of girls!”
