The Lady Devils soccer team continued building momentum with a 9-0 win over the Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets at an away conference matchup game Thursday, March 28, coming off their last two wins against Murphy and Tri-County the week prior.

Coach Scott Cline said the game started strong - the Lady Devils scored within the first minute when junior Mya Burrows-Kurr crossed the ball to sophomore Audrey Monteith, who finished it.

Then it was another 16 minutes before they scored again, when senior Emmie Fuller got a pass from junior Izzy Walker and Fuller scored the goal.

Then, in four minutes, the Lady Devils got four more goals - junior Karena Cline found Fuller with a ball between two opposing defenders, and Fuller spun that into a goal. Cline took a corner and Fuller finished it off with a header into the goal - giving her a hat trick in the first half.

Junior Lola Collins took action next, finding Burrows-Kurr for a goal.

At the end of the first half, the Lady Devils were winning 6-0.

The second half went ten minutes with no scoring, before Burrows-Kurr found senior JC Parsons - it was her first goal of the season.

More goals were scored in the second half by Cline finding Fuller and Burrows-Kurr, who in turn scored goals and got the Lady Devils to their 9-0 finish.

Coach Cline wrote in an email that the team “did a great job of getting the ball moved around the field.”

The defense was led by junior Rose Carson and senior Anna Gray, who both got five clears/steals. Junior Gracie Sutton in the goalie box got five saves. Fuller was the player of the game, with Coach Cline writing that she “played many different positions on the field for us. She really stepped up her play and played a big part in five of our nine goals.”

The Lady Devils played a game at home Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. against the Blue Ridge Bobcats in a conference kickoff, which they won 7-0.

On Wednesday, April 3 after press time they traveled to Brevard for a non-conference matchup - in what was sure to be a daunting game, in Coach Cline’s opinion, since Brevard was 9-0 and ranked second among 2A schools.
