The Lady Devils soccer team played what will be their last game for at least a month against Invest Collegiate Imagine on Friday at the Swain County Rec Park and took the win 5-0. The game opened with Swain starting the seniors on the team.

This season Swain has eight seniors: Meli Myers, Rianne Stokes, Mallerie Clampitt, Dhruti Senghani, Nola Pina, Rebecca Duncan, Peyton Hines and Hope Long.

It took the Lady Devils almost 37 minutes to get the first goal of the game. The goal came off of a score by Junior Bri Ross. Just two minutes later, Ross would score once again off a pass from Junior Kate Poss. In the second half Junior Isabelle Green would score her first goal of the game 30 minutes into the half. Later in the half Sophomore Kaylee Simmons would add a goal.

A few minutes later Simmons would find the back of the net one more time off a pass from Poss. The Lady Devils would finish with the 5-0 win.

“Overall, we played a great game. This game meant a lot to the girls,” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “With so much uncertainty surrounding our season, the girls really wanted a win in this game.”

On defense, Poss would lead the way with 11 clears/steals. Seniors Rebecca Duncan and Peyton Hines had 5 each, followed by Ross with 3. In goal, senior Hope Long recorded 9 saves and Ross recorded 1 save. The player of the game for the Lady Devils was junior Kate Poss.

“Kate did a great job of distributing the ball from her defensive position and she also stepped up anchoring the defense in the back line,” said Cline.

The Lady Devils will wait until April 6 to hear about resuming practices and games.
