Asheville – The Lady Devils had to work some early season magic in downing Blue Ridge Sports Academy on Tuesday.  After seeing their 5-2 lead evaporate to a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 7th, the Lady Devils had to then wiggle out of a bases loaded situation to take the nonconference win.

Blue Ridge started the bottom of the 7th by getting their first two hitters on base. Then they worked them around and scored both runners to pull to within 1 at 5-4.  Blue Ridge then loaded the bases with two outs.  Junior Stacey Griggs struck out the final batter on only 3 pitches to seal the win for the Lady Devils.

For the game, Griggs gave up 6 hits, striking out 7 and walking 3 in working the complete game.  Swain gave up only 2 earned runs on the day.

At the plate, the Eagleman sisters provided 5 of the Lady Devils 8 hits on the day.  Senior Kenzie Eagleman went 3-3 on the day, coming up a single shy of hitting for the cycle.  She doubled, tripled and then sent a solo shot out to centerfield to lead off the top of the 7th for Swain, it was her first home run of the season.  Kele Eagleman went 2-3 on the day, both sisters drove in a run and scored a run.  Brayden Taylor, Stacey Griggs and Gracie Edwards each had a hit in the win.

Like other sports, the team is now on hold until April 6 over coronavirus prevention set by NCHSAA.
