Lady Highlanders pull away in close match with Lady Devils

Highlands broke open a tied game by outscoring Swain 22-18 over the game’s final 8 minutes to take a 61-57 win over the Lady Devils varsity basketball team on Tuesday.

The game itself was close from the start with both teams exchanging the lead throughout the contest.  At the end of third quarter, it was tied at 39.

The duo of Mazie Helpman and Savana Smith paced the Lady Devls.  Helpman finished with a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Smith had 18 points.  Helpman also dished out 5 assists and blocked 4 shots.  Senior Ashton Younce added 11 points and 6 rebounds for Swain.

Hayley Borino led all scorers with a game high 35 points, including shooting 18 of 22 from the free throw line.

On Friday, the Lady Devils will travel to Andrews for a conference game.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Lady Devils will play at home against Cherokee.
