After a 76-47 win over Summit Charter in Cashiers, the Maroon Devils came out on fire hosting Summit at Swain last Wednesday, Jan. 15 and jumped out to a 11-0 lead and never looked back by cruising to a 77-39 win.

Owen Medlin scored the first 4 points of the game followed by Druw Cody’s 7 straight points before Chance Wilson got the Bears on the scoreboard 11-2. Medlin scored off an offensive rebound and hit another bucket while Cody hit a shot, got a steal and another basket, to put Swain on top 19-4.

The Maroon Devils kept the heat on the Bears with 8 more second-quarter points from Medlin, 4 from Cody, while Jaden Wade scorched the nets with three 3-point baskets, and Rowan Ellis, along with J.T. Schuler, scored for a 53-16 half-time lead.

Head Coach Scotty McMahan had the luxury of playing most of his roster in the second half after a Jon Stephenson basket and a couple of Medlin free throws gave Swain a 57-16 lead and a running game clock,  which made for a quick second half.

Dhruv Patel hit the Maroon Devils’ final shot with a nice 3-pointer for the final score of 77-39.

Swain dominated the boards in the game, as Medlin led the scoring with 24 points (18 in the first half) and 8 rebounds, Druw Cody had 15 points (all in the first half) and 4 assists. Wade had 11 points including  3-3 point field goals. Swain improved to 5-5 while Summit dropped to 2-9.

Swain got back to conference play Tuesday as Robbinsville comes to Swain. Look for coverage in next week’s edition.
