The Swain High School outdoor track team traveled to Columbus, N.C. on Friday, March 4 to compete at the Tony Waldroup Invitational. The meet took place at Polk County High School with a total of nine teams.
Lady Devils
For the ladies 100-meter dash, Sienna Hackshaw placed 6th with 14:10 and Allie Gibson placed 8th with 14:72. In the 400-meter dash, Hackshaw placed 4th with 1:07.45. In the 800 meter, Amaya Hicks was 3rd with 2:33.43, Gracie Monteith 5th with 2:38.16, Lauryn Linton 7th with 2:51.13, and Lily Bjerkness 10th with 2:54.45. For the 1600-meter run, Gracie Monteith was 3rd with 2:38.16, Lily Bjerkness 4th with 6:24.59, and Lauryn Linton 5th with 6:34.71.
The Lady Devils placed 3rd in the 4x100 meter relay.
Gracie Sutton was 5th in high jump, followed by Lindley Wyatt in 7th and Erika Wachacha in 8th and Isabella Walker was third in long jump and 2nd in triple jump.
In pole vault, Amelia Rogers was first, Laiken Harvey 2nd, and Hannah Wingate 3rd.
In the discus, Annasette Cooper was third, Kaiya Vestal was 7th, Emmy Everhardt 10th, and Emma McCoy 13th. In shot put, Hannah Brown was 3rd, Sarabeth Sutton 7th, Annasette Cooper 9th, and Emmy Everhardt 10th.
Maroon Devils
For the 100-meter dash, Josiah Glaspie was 10th with 12.30, Josh Collins 17th with 12.68, Shawan Durham 23rd with 12.96, Jackson Pittard 24th with 13.03, and Reese Winchester 28th with 13.31. In the 400 meter, Kane Jones was 3rd with 55.54, Joryn Walker 7th with 58.25, and Sawyer Cochran 11th with 1:02.55.
Connor Lambert was 4th in the 800-meter with 2:20.27 and Connor Brown was first in the 1600 meter with 4:43.36.
Kelan McCullough was 3rd in the 300-meter hurdle with 46.84.
Swain’s boys were 4th in the 4x100 meter relay, 3rd in the 4x200 meter, and first in the 4x800 meter.
Matthew Gray came in 4th for high jump and Dawson Cody was 10th and Kelan McCullough 11th in long jump. In triple jump, Isaiah Collins was 5th, Dawson Cody 6th, and Josh Collins 7th.
Matthew Gray was first in pole vault, followed by Owen Craig in third, and Kelan McCullough in 5th. Braylon James was 3rd in discus, with Ben Payne in 8th, Nathan Bogdanowicz in 10th, Lucas Sutton in 12th, and Braylon Aldridge in 13th. Conner Driver was 4th in shot put followed by Nathan Bogdanowicz in 8th and Braylon Aldrige in 24th.
