On Friday, the Maroon Devils traveled to Fannin County, where they went 2-0 on the evening, 45-26 against returning 2A State Champions from last year, Fannin County and 48-33 against White County.

“We are not where I want us to be, but we are heading in the right direction. 7-0 on the year, though. Still a lot of work to do and wrestling to wrestle,” Coach Adam Jamiez said. “The thing that stands out the most to us as a staff is the effort and willingness to make themselves every time our kids go out there. We’re fortunate to have such a great group of kids, and parents that allow us to guide these kids through the ups and downs from those momentary setbacks.”

The girls team wrestled at the Falcon Frenzy this past Saturday, finishing 2nd to Gibbs (Tenn.)

At the meet, Chloe Lambert was first, Isabel Lambert and Tasia Neadeau in second, and Annasette Cooper and Emmy Everhardt in third.

“We had a shot at winning the whole thing, but our youth and inexperience got us in the end. We have a great core, and our program will continue to grow and better,” Coach Adam Jamiez said. “Our Middle School program has another great little group of ladies coming up as well, so the future is bright for the Lady Devils Wrestling Program. We are very appreciative to the parents and administrators for allowing us the opportunity to really grow this program.”

The boys wrestling team is back in action this Tuesday at Union County and again Friday and Saturday the boys and girls teams will compete at the Smoky Mountain Grapple in Asheville.
