Crowders plead guilty of child abuse

Staff reports   A man and his wife, former Swain County residents who now live in Caldwell County, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, May 11 to neglect and child abuse charges stemming from severe injuries inflicted on a four-year-old boy in their care, District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch said.

Jessica Webb editor@thesmokymountaintimes.com   Swain County Schools were all on lockdown Thursday morning, May 5, after notification of a potential threat at East Elementary School. The immediate threat was quickly determined to be resolved but East Elementary remained on a perimeter lockdown.
On Tuesday, county workers set out gravel around the pool to get ready to pour concrete. The pool, which was out of use all of last season due to renovations, will reopen for all to enjoy this summer season.
