County approves $2.88 million budget amendment

Swain County Board of Commissioners allocated an additional $2.883 million in the county’s budget for this fiscal year. Commissions approved their third budget amendment during their regular meeting on Oct. 13. Allocations were made from several revenue sources including $2.

Bathroom doors reinstalled after student protest

Hannah Styles hstyles@thesmokymountaintimes.com   For weeks rumors have been swirling about Swain County High School’s bathrooms where hall doors and mirrors were removed. The school’s reason? To prevent students from doing “inappropriate things” in the bathroom. Vaping has also been a concern.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, National Park Service Director Chuck Sams traveled to Great Smoky Mountains National Park to commemorate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) by thanking volunteers for their stewardship in America’s most visited National Park. Rear Admiral Denise Hinton, U.S.
