Mountain Discover Charter School students, K-8, ran around the quarter mile “school loop,” up its 100-foot incline and back down, to raise money for instructional supplies Monday. Last year, the Fund Run raised approximately $19,000.

Swain Cancer Support donated a total love offering of $28,000 last year. One of its recipients was cancer survivor Dawn Dills. “They gifted me a check for $1,000 to help with bills, gas, whatever I needed it for,” said Dills.

Charles “Charlie” James Kirk, 31, died Sept. 10 when shot while speaking to a crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012, a conservative advocacy group and well-financially backed national organization.

Florida Highway Patrolman and Korean War Vet. Philip Guy Bailie, 91, passed away in Asheville Sept. 10. Philip was an 18-year member of Bryson City Church of God. He attended Sunday service when staying at the cabin he shared with his late wife and love of his life, Shirley – 1935-2022.
