Dewayne “Pedab” Larry Woodard of the Alarka community passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

A Swain County native, Pedab was the son of Betty and the late Larry Woodard.

Pedab was preceded in death by his father Larry; his grandparents Furman and Allene Cochran, Bill and Linda Woodard; his uncle Butch Cochran.

Pedab is survived by his wife Megan Biggs Woodard; children Drew Ann Woodard and Zackary Dewayne Woodard; sister Vicki Davis; brother Chad Woodard; aunts and uncles Jean Cochran (the late Butch), Dewey Cochran (Julie), Karen Craig (Ted), Angie Richmond (Gene), Kent Cochran (Lynne), Billy Ray Woodard (Gail), Gary Lee Woodard (Christine), Phillip Woodard, and Lonnie Woodard; nephews Johnny Woodard (Haleigh), Skye Woodard, Cole Wiggins, Jace Wiggins, Ian Brooks; nieces Summer Davis, Hope Woodard and Allie Brooks; great-nephew Oakland Woodard; great niece Kaymden Woodard; many cousins and extended family members; special children Silas, Piper and Paislee Stanberry and Maverick Biggs.

Pedab was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved to hunt, boat and fish.  He loved the sport of baseball and for many years was a dedicated and passionate coach/mentor to lots of young men in Western North Carolina.  Pedab loved to be in the woods and was a logger by trade.  He was a hard worker and was always looking for ways to improve his skills.

He will be remembered for his contagious smile and his big laugh.  His legacy and memory will live on in his many friends and family.

Pall bearers were: James Cabe, Phillip Cochran, Chris Dietz, Greg Fortner, Buster Howard, Brian Stanberry, Chris Wiggins, Johnny Woodard.

Honorary pall bearers were:  Mule Brown, Justin Cosby, Gary Fuller, Sunny Gibson, Skeeter Hampton, Chad Jones, Brian Richmond, Doug Woodard

Family received friends on Friday evening, May 20, from 6 – 8 PM at Crisp Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 AM at Crisp Funeral Home.  Burial services followed at Mason Branch Cemetery
