Howard Richard Woody, (Woody) 65 a native of Swain County, passed away on Thursday October 21, 2021 at his childhood home, after a short battle with cancer.

Richard was born September 3, 1956 to Earl Woody and Evelyn Greene Woody of Bryson City.

Richard was a renowned Carpenter spending most of his adult life building homes and doing home repairs in many surrounding counties. He was also one of the last instructors to teach carpentry classes at Southwestern Community College.  He had a great love of hunting and fishing and was a member of The Outback Hunting Club in Wilks County Georgia since 1994. It was here that he gained a circle of lifetime friends.

He was gentle and patient man who loved his family and friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Earl Woody and son Marc Woody.

He leaves behind his mother, Evelyn Woody of Bryson City, life partner Nancy Collins of Walhalla, SC, daughters Angie Woody and Jennifer Monteith (husband Nathaniel) both of Sylva, stepdaughter Amanda Swager of Walhalla SC, grand children Griffin Woody, Jacob Woody and Lacie Woody of Sylva and Austin Woolbright and Skylar Swager of Walhalla SC. Sisters Cindy Thompson of Charleston SC, Robin Woody of Bryson City, Karen Woody of Sylva and Linda Woody of Bryson City. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at 1:00 pm Sunday, October 24th followed by the service at 2. Both were held at the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Pastor Raymond Matthews officiated.

Pall bearers were Griffin Woody, Jacob Woody, Monty Kirkpatrick, Monroe Hoyle, Keith Clark, and Jeff Camby.  Burial was at the Woody Family Cemetery.
