Marie Cochran, 84, of the Alarka Community went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 16, 2020. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late W.S. and Flora Southards McMahan. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Zeb Cochran; one sister, Donna Mae Herron, and one brother, Newell McMahan.

Marie retired from the Swain County School system with many years of service. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Marie has always said that “she had a wonderful Christian life. A wonderful husband, Zeb Cochran; three wonderful children, Ann, David, and Doug. She is a child of God and hopes all of her family will be together in Heaven”. She always said “always put God first, live for him.”

Marie is survived by a daughter, Ann Walls and husband Buddy of Bryson City; two sons, David Cochran and wife Becky of Bryson City, and Doug Cochran and wife Janet of Bryson City; four grandsons, Chris Walls, Tony Walls, Shane Cochran, and Daniel Cochran, and eight great grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Andrew, Caleb, Rachael, Danielle (Lizzie), Lane, and Ryleigh.

Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Friday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tim Barker officiated with burial at Brendle Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends form 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Daniel Cochran, Shane Cochran, Tony Walls, Chris Walls, Lane Cochran, and Ben Walls.

Honorary pallbearer was Gene Richmond.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Marie’s Daughter-in-law Becky for being her caregiver for the past 2 years.
