Mary Catron, 66, of Bryson City went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Berthine Shankin.

Mary enjoyed the mountains and the outdoors of the area.  She was an artist and also enjoyed fishing.  She was proud to be of Cherokee decent, being born on the Qualla Reservation.  She was adopted by a South Carolina family along with her sisters but always kept a connection with her Cherokee heritage.  Mary spent her career as a private care nurse.

She is survived by her husband, James Catron, of 33 years.  She is also survived by three sons, Robert Timothy Hunter, James Harvey Kelly, and Robert Austin Franks; a sister, Carol Ann Fendley; a brother Larry Lovelace and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on November 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home.
