Easter Eggstravaganza 2026

More than 1,000 children and families, from near and far, are expected to attend the annual spring Easter Eggstravaganza at Darnell Farms March 28, according to Afton Darnell.

Swain Co. Band students earn All-District Honors; busy spring ahead

Approximately 1,200 middle and high school students from across Western North Carolina auditioned for a spot in the regional All-District Band Clinic held Feb. 6-7. Following a competitive audition process, top-scoring musicians were selected to participate in a weekend clinic at WCU.

The Town of Bryson City is working on various capital improvement projects focused on enhancing pedestrian safety and improving water distribution and sewer collection systems. These projects are funded by a combination of grants and loans, some with principal forgiveness.

LIFE ON THE FARM

Nestled along the Tuckasegee River, Darnell Farms has grown from the vision of Jeffrey Darnell into a bustling agricultural and community hub, drawing in an estimated 100,000 visitors each year.

Election 2026: Sheriff candidates talk public safety

The people of Swain County will cast ballots in the Primary election on March 3 to select a democrat and republican candidate to lead their party’s ticket in the November General Election. Incumbent Sheriff Brian Kirkland (R) is running to maintain the position he has held since July.

Swain County voters will cast ballots in the primary election on March 3 to choose candidates for chairperson and two commissioner seats on the Swain County Board of Commissioners. Winners from both the Democratic and Republican primaries will advance to the general election on Nov. 3.

Beck Cove home destroyed by fire

A Beck Cove family lost their home and belongings in a fire Saturday night. They were alerted by the family dog and exited the home unharmed.   Bryson City Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:21 p.m.
