Lady Devils XC take another win at regionals

Following an impressive win the week before at the Smoky Mountain Conference Cross Country Championships, the Lady Devils just keep racking up titles. On Saturday, Swain’s cross-country teams competed again at Kituwah Mound, this time for the NCHSAA Western 1A Regional Championships.

Swain’s girls team placed first out of 13 teams with 47 points and an average time of 20:30. Behind the Lady Devils were Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy with 71 points, Bradford Prep Charter School with 90, Christ the King Catholic School with 139 and nine other schools from the region.

Individual placers included Amaya Hicks in 4th with 19:31.12, Annie Lewis in 5th with 19:57.56, Gracie Monteith in 8th with 20:40.72, Angel Lomelli in 14th with 21:06.42, Marden Harvey in 16th with 21:15.35, Lilah Foster in 31st with 22:30.46, and Sienna Hackshaw 32nd with 22:38.09 out of 101 runners.

 

Maroon Devils

After placing second in the SMC Championships the week before, the Maroon Devils continued their momentum and placed 4th out of 14 schools across the region.

Cherokee placed 1st with 24 points, Christ the King Catholic School 2nd with 59, Mountain Island Charter 3rd with 100 and Swain in 4th with 125 followed by 10 other schools.

For individual Swain runners, Kane Jones was 16th with 17:39.68, Connor Lambert 24th with 18:04.50, Carl Baird 27th with 18:15.63, Corey Wolf 32nd with 18:29.05, Abhi Patel 36th with 18:38.50, and Jackson Pittard in 72nd with 19:57.93 out of 114 competitors.

This Saturday, Swain’s cross-country runners who qualified for state will travel to Kernersville, North Carolina for the NCHSAA 1A State Championships. Last year, the Lady Devils won and the Maroon Devils placed 6th.
