North Shore Cemetery Association to host reunion

The North Shore Cemetery Association will be hosting a downscaled version of the Reunion on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  This will be a ‘drop-in event’ to accommodate those who want to see some of the others they have been missing.  There will be no organized services or agenda.

Great Outdoors Act passes Senate

The US Senate passed the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act Wednesday, June 17, that would provide funding for the deferred maintenance backlog for national parks and public lands including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

COVID-19 cases on the boundary up by seven

Cherokee reported seven additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, Thursday, June 4. That brings the total of confirmed cases tested at the Cherokee Indian Hospital to 36. According to the tribe, 16 have recovered. There have been a total of 2,625 tests administered.

Early voting begins for Republican second primary

Swain County Board of Elections Office will have one-stop hours for the upcoming June 23 second primary beginning today, Thursday, June 4. One-stop will continue Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The only Saturday will be June 20 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
