Swain falls to Robbinsville on the final play

Nick Nichols SMT Sports    Swain traveled to Robbinsville Friday, Oct. 3 to take on the Black Knights in an always highly contested Smoky Mountain Conference game. The Black Knights pulled off the 23-20 win by kicking a 27 yard field goal as the clock expired.

Seniors shine on the court

Maroon Devils secure 3-0 win over Jaguars

Kyndall Cochran Coach   The Swain County Maroon Devils hit the road this past week, traveling to Murphy High School to take on the Tri-County Jaguars. After a strong performance last week, the Devils were eager to build on that momentum and players did not disappoint.

Devils win at Block Out Cancer night

Leah Pacey Coach   Swain High Volleyball hosted its Block Out Cancer game last Thursday against the Rosman Tigers – an evening of community and volleyball. Donations and t-shirt sales from the event totaled $1,526, which will go directly to individuals battling cancer.

Maroon Devils battle to double overtime draw against Yellow Jackets

Kyndall Cochran Swain Soccer Coach   The Maroon Devils traveled to face the Hayesville Yellow Jackets on Sept. 22 for a 4 p.m. kickoff. After two overtimes, the match ended in a 0–0 draw, but the game was far from boring. Swain created several strong opportunities on goal.

Swain overpowers Andrews 55-0  

Nick Nichols SMT Sports   The Andrews Wildcats traversed Topton Mountain and negotiated the Nantahala Gorge to Bryson City Friday, Sept. 19, to engage the Swain County Maroon Devils in the first Smoky Mountain Conference battle for both teams.

Teams step up to deliver wins

Leah Pacey Volleyball Coach   The Swain County volleyball teams traveled to Murphy last week and swept the Bulldogs in all three matches. The middle school, JV and Varsity teams took care of business in straight sets.

Swain upsets Mountain Heritage 16-14 

Nick Nichols SMT Sports   It is a beautiful Fall night for football at Swain County Memorial Stadium, Boyce Deitz Field, Friday night, Sept. 12 as 3A Western Highlands Conference Mountain Heritage traveled from Burnsville, NC to take on the Swain County Maroon Devils 1-2.

Swain volleyball earns wins from youth to varsity

Leah Pacey Head Volleyball Coach   There’s no place like home for Swain County Varsity Volleyball, who bounced back after a loss on the road last week. Everything went their way against the Robbinsville Black Knights on Thursday, Sept. 4, as they made off with a 3-0 victory.

Maroon Devils fall to Franklin Panthers

Nick Nichols  SMT Sports   There was almost a full moon over Swain County Memorial Stadium Friday, Sept. 5, as Swain squared off against the 1-1 Franklin Panthers, its third consecutive Mountain 8 4A/5A opponent. The game was much closer than the final score of 45-27 Franklin indicated.
