Swain Indoor Track team dominates at first meet

Swain began indoor track last week, with their first meet, the Bulldog Polar Bear in Murphy on Wednesday. Both Swain boys and girls teams won first place with 84 points out of four teams.

 

Maroon Devils

The boys placed first all over the board from relays, to pole vault, to hurdles.

Swain took first in the 4x400 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay and had second in the 4x800 meter relay with Connor Brown, Conner Lambert, and Jaxon McClung.

Swain’s Kelan McCullough took 2nd in high jump and 1st in the long jump.

The triple jump had Matthew Gray in 1st, Austin Jenkins in 2nd, Jackson Pittard in 5th, and Gavin Roland in 6th. Matthew Gray was also 1st place in pole vault.

In the 55-meter hurdles, Austin Jenkins finished 1st and shot-put Connor Lambert was in 6th, Hunter Cochran in 7th, and Kyle Nguyen in 8th.

The 1,000-meter run had Connor Lambert in 2nd and Jaxon McClung in 4th and in the 1600 Meter Run Corey Wolf was 4th and Spencer Rowland in 9th.

The 55-meter dash was Landon Matz in 1st, Jackson Pittard in 6th, and Hunder Cochran in 7th, the 300 meter dash was Matthew Gray in 2nd, and Brendan Lanning in 3rd, and the 500 meter dash had Kane Jones in 1st, Gavin Roland in 2nd, and Jackson Pittard in 3rd.

 

Lady Devils

The Lady Devils did well, with most members of the team from the State Champion Cross Country team this year.

For girls shot-put, Malla Bradley was in 4th, Annasette Cooper in 8th, and Sarabeth Sutton in 9th. In the girls 4x200 meter relay, Swain finished second with Emily Ulaner, Kiersten Smith, Amaya Hicks, and Mazie Helpman.

In the girls 4x200 meter relay, Swain was first with Arizona Blankenship, Amaya Hicks, Emily  Ulaners and Mazie Helpman and also took first in the 4x800 meter relay, with Arizona Blankenship, Amaya Hicks, Gracie Monteith, and Emily Ulaner.

For the 55-meter dash the Lady Devils finished with Cora Watkins in 6th, Melani Linton in 7th, Kiersten Smith in 9th, and Karena Cline in 10th.

The 55-meter hurdles had Mya Burrows-Kurr in 2nd, Melani Linton in 3rd, and Alden Thomas in 4th.

The 300-meter dash finished with Mazie Helpman in 1st, Amelia Rogers in 5th, and Lyla Foster in 7th. The 500-meter dash finished with Amaya Hicks in 1st, the 1,000 meter dash finished with Gracie Monteith in 2nd, and the 1600 meter dash had Arizona Blankenship in 1st, Lauryn Linton in 2nd, and Josephine Parson in 7th.

Girls high jump had Gracie Sutton in 1st, Julie Smith in 2nd, and Ameilia Rogers in 3rd, while long jump had Isabel Walker in 6th, Kiersten Smith in 7th, and Josephine Parsons in 11th. Triple jump had Isaballa Walker in 4th, Kiersten Smith in 5th, and Cora Watkins in 6th. In pole vault, Swain girls took all three places, Amelia Rogers in 1st, Laiken Harvey in 2nd, and Alden Thomas in 3rd.

Swain’s next indoor track meet will be Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Robbinsville starting at 3 p.m.
