Lady Devils fall short against Mustangs in season starter

The Swain varsity girls’ basketball team also took on the Mustangs last Tuesday in Sylva. In the first quarter, the Lady Devils fell behind a couple points with seven to the Mustang’s nine. In the second, the Mustangs scored 18 points to Swain’s nine, going into halftime with a 27-16 lead.

Maroon Devils football fall in 2nd round of playoffs

Hannah Styles hstyles@thesmokymountaintimes.com   Last week, Maroon hearts broke as Swain’s dreams of this year’s state football title were dashed by the Thomasville Bulldogs as Swain fell in the 2nd round of NCHSAA playoffs.
Swain County High School Lady Maroon Devils cross country team earned another state championship title this past Saturday at Kernersville with 50 points. Several also earned individual spots on the podium. The Maroon Devils cross country team took 7th at state.

Maroon Devils football advances in first round of playoffs

Hannah Styles hstyles@thesmokymountaintimes.com   On Friday night the Swain County Maroon Devils took on Winston Salem Preparatory Academy at home for the first round of the NCHSAA football playoffs. In the first few minutes of the game both teams battled back and forth on the field.

TDA donates toward state rings for Swain runners

Hannah Styles hstyles@thesmokymountaintimes.com   On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Swain County Tourism Development Authority representatives met with Swain County High School athletes at Deep Creek picnic area to present a check to Swain’s running programs to go toward buying 2021 state championship rings.
The Lady Devils lead the pack at the start of the regionals competition held this past Saturday at Kituwah. The team took the win and will travel to state this weekend.
