Over the weekend the Swain High School track and field team competed at the Western Regional Championships. Swain was predicted to place second at regionals behind Mountain Island Charter, but the Lady Devils weren’t giving up their defending Western Regional Championship title without a fight.

Hannah Styles hstyles@thesmokymountaintimes.com   On Tuesday, the Maroon Devils played Hiwassee Dam at home in the first round of playoffs, where they took the 11-1 win. The game started off on fire for the Devils with six runs in the first inning alone.

Senior Will Jenkins traveled to Mountain Glen Golf Course on Tuesday May 3rd for the 1A West Regional Round. The difficulty of the course and fast greens provided a true test for the Senior as he carded a 92 (+20). “Will never got into a good rhythm,” Coach Crisp said.

Last Thursday, the Lady Devils soccer team hosted the Cherokee Braves for Senior Night. The seniors honored on Swain’s team were Mirian DeLaCruz, Mazie Helpman, Jade Henry, Avery Maples, Jadyn Perez, and Kaylee Simmons.
