Maroon Devils notch first season win against Braves

The Maroon Devils varsity basektball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday as they traveled to Cherokee.  Swain exploded for 31 points in the 3rd quarter and 51 in the 2nd half to pull away and take an 80-69 win.

Lady Devils open season with win over Lady Wildcats

The Lady Devils varsity basektball team got their season off to a solid start this past Friday with an impressive 73-31 win over visiting Andrews.  Swain raced out to an early lead and never looked back in winning their season opener.

Swain wrestling sets its sights high for the season

Despite five top-four individual finishes in the state championships, including a title win by Noland Brown, the Swain County wrestling team feels as though it left its business unfinished in 2018-2019 and is hungry to set the record straight this season.

Losing eight seniors to graduation will hurt any team, particularly when the group was headlined by a star in Zeke Bradley who was part of 60 wins during his Swain County career. Head Coach Scotty McMahan knows a younger 2019-2020 team will pose new challenges but also new opportunities.

2nd seed Mitchell ends Maroon Devils season

Spruce Pine – The number 2 seeded Mitchell Mountaineers ended the Maroon Devils title hopes last Friday.  Mitchell broke open a close game by scoring 17 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter to take a commanding 24-0 lead into halftime.

Maroon Devil Network   Bessemer City – The Maroon Devils traveled to Bessemer City this past Friday for the 2nd round of the NCHSAA 1AA football playoffs. It was business as usual for Neil Blankenship and his Maroon Devils as they turned in another dominating performance.

Maroon Devils dominate Union Academy in 1st round

Maroon Devil Network   The Maroon Devils notched Swain’s 30th straight 1st round home win on Friday.  Much like many of the other 30 over the years, it was in dominating fashion.  Swain would build a 47-0 lead through the first three quarters before visiting Union Academy scored.

Kernersville– It was a cold, early Saturday morning at Beeson Park in Kernersville, N.C.  In fact, at race time the mercury was still frozen at 28 degrees.  But that did not deter your Swain County Maroon Devils from running in the NCHSAA XC 1A State Championships.
