The Maroon Devil wrestlers showed out this past weekend at the Western Regional Individual Championships. All total six Swain wrestlers qualified for next weekends NCHSAA State Championships.  Because of their strong showing, Swain finished 2nd as a team at the Individual Championships.

The Swain County High School girls wrestling team traveled to compete at the NCHSAA Girls State Tournament in Concord, North Carolina, on Saturday, Feb. 8, with several athletes making the semi-finals. Lady Devil Jessica Lohmann was the second place finisher.

Maroon Devil Network   Bryson City – The Maroon Devils put a scare into 1st place Hayesville on Friday.  Swain went on a 26-11 run in the 2nd quarter, which saw them build a 36-22 halftime advantage.

Maroon Devil Network   Bryson City – Hayesville broke open a close game with runs in the 2nd and 3rd quarters then held off the Lady Devils down the stretch to take a 55-50 win on Friday.  The Lady Devils staged a comeback in the 4th quarter, outscoring Hayesville 15-9 down the stretch.

Maroon Devil Network   Polk County – Saturday the Swain Indoor Track teams traveled to Polk County to participate in the WNC Championships.  It also served as the last meet before this week’s event at Cherokee, where athletes will have their final chance to qualify for the State Championships.

The Swain High School varsity boys basketball team hit on 56% of their shots on the way to 96 points for the game as they posted a 96-63 win over Highlands on Tuesday. Swain built a 47-25 halftime lead and never looked back, as everyone who dressed for the Maroon Devils scored.
