Lady Devils start the year off right with fierce competition

Swain County Lady Devil wrestlers traveled to Parkwood High School Friday, Jan. 3 for a dual team tournament that included five of the top 10 teams in state. The Lady Devils were 4-1, falling in a nail biter to #2 ranked Jack Britt.

Lady Devils wrestling champions at Asheville competition

Gary Ayers ayers5315@bellsouth.net     The outstanding Swain girls wrestling team competed in the Great Smoky Mountain Grapple, one of the largest tournaments in the state, in Asheville recently. Competing against 28 other teams, the Lady Devils came out on top as champions.

Basketball conference play begins for Swain teams

Gary Ayers ayers5315@bellsouth.net   Smoky Mountain Conference basketball play began Friday, Dec. 13, at the Swain County High School gym as the Hayesville Yellow Jackets swarmed the Lady Devils and Maroon Devil boys varsity teams.

Swain indoor track hosts BeAPAYNE Polar Invitational

Gary Ayers ayers5315@bellsouth.net   The Swain High Indoor Track and Field teams and individuals flexed their muscles and ran with speed as the Maroon Devils hosted the BeAPAYNE Polar Invitational recently at the Swain High track.
Clay Seagle, a senior, was a runner up at 175 at the weekend's home tournament.

Devils take 5th, girls 2nd at home wrestling invitational

Swain High hosted an invitational Nov. 15 and Nov. 16. The  placed 5th out of 16 teams. Noteworthy performances for the weekend included Joel Maffett, a freshman, as a runner up at 106, a champ at 132 in Kale Stephenson, senior and Clay Seagle, a senior as a runner up at 175 as well.
Swain Maroon Devils finished third in conference. The final match was a playoff away game against Mount Airy.

Maroon Devils soccer finishes third in conference

The Maroon Devils soccer team finished out their season on Saturday, Nov. 9 as they took on Mount Airy High School in a tough battle that ended 8-0 in Mount Airy’s favor. “It was a tough game for our team. They have a really good team,” said Head Coach Kyndall Cochran.
