Lady Devils volleyball seniors recognized

Swain Lady Devils hosted Andrews on Thursday night, Oct. 10 and came out with the 3-0 win. Following the win, the Lady Devils are 16-5 on the season and 6-4 in conference, placing them third in the conference.

Lady Devils are 1st at Payne Memorial Invitational

On Saturday, Sept. 21, Swain High School cross country hosted a Smoky Mountain Conference Invitational at Kituwah Mound. The event was named Keith Payne Memorial Invitational in honor of their coach who died unexpectedly of a heart condition in August.

Maroon Devil soccer has back-to-back wins

On Wednesday, Sept. 17 the Maroon Devils hosted the Hayesville Yellow Jackets. The Devils came out on top with a 4-2 win over the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Homer Lawless had two goals on the night and the other two goals came from Edwin Lezama and Brendan Lanning.

Swain women’s golf underscores Knights

The Swain High Women’s Golf team traveled to Franklin Golf Course for a nine hole match on Sept. 12 to battle Robbinsville. Swain edged Robbinsville with a team score of 161 to 164. Leading the Maroon Devils was Senior Mya Burrows-Kurr posting her lowest round of the season with a 49 (+13).

Maroon Devils soccer wins two in conference

Last Wednesday, the Swain High Maroon Devils men’s soccer team traveled to Blue Ridge Early College for a conference matchup. The game started fast with the Bobcats getting two goals in on the Devils. "It's simple mistakes that we cleaned up as the game went on," said head coach Kyndall Cochran.

Tuscola takes Friday 13th win over Devils

Gary Ayers ayers5315@bellsouth.net   Some people believe Friday the 13th is bad luck. Swain High football fans are probably among them, as a fumbled snap on the games' very first play from scrimmage led to an early 7-0 lead for Tuscola.

Women’s golf places second and first in two road matches

On Thursday, Aug. 29, the Swain High women’s golf team traveled to Lake Junaluska for their first nine hole match of the season against Cherokee. Coach Josh Crisp told the Lady Devils, “There are zero expectations other than to have fun and enjoy being on the course!

Maroon Devils soccer defeats Bulldogs

Staff Reports   The Swain High School varsity Maroon Devils soccer team traveled to Murphy on Monday night to take on the Murphy Bulldogs for the first conference game of the season. The Devil defense stepped up to deliver a 1-0 shutout against the Bulldogs.

Blankenship and Baird finish third at regional Friday Night Lights

Maroon Devil Athletics   Swain High School cross country teams traveled to Kernersville Friday evening, Sept. 6 to compete in Friday Night Lights. A total of 127 schools participated, with almost 4,000 runners competing. The Swain girls finished 19th overall. The boys were 24th as a team.
