Larry Griffin lgriffin@thesmokymountaintimes.com   Swain County High junior Nse Uffort is one of the best at throwing discus and shot put in the whole country. But it all started when he was injured playing football years ago. “When I was a freshman, I tore my ACL playing football,” he said.

Lady Devils soccer notches wins over Tri-County, Murphy

Larry Griffin lgriffin@thesmokymountaintimes.com   The Lady Devils soccer team has racked up two more wins. On Thursday evening, March 21, they blanked the Tri-County Early College Lady Jaguars 9-0. Then, they were back at it Monday, March 25, beating the Murphy Bulldogs 1-0 at another home game.

Devils advance in state playoffs

The Devils pulled off a 68-65 win against opponents from Bradford Prep at a game Tuesday night, Feb. 27. The game was a close one from the beginning, and Bradford Prep pulled ahead in the early part of the game, forcing the Devils to play hard to catch up.
