Playing games on consecutive nights is nothing new to the veteran Swain County High School girls’ basketball roster, but with an abbreviated 2020-2021 schedule, the Lady Devils were not supposed to see any back-to-backs this season.

Early lead over Lady Devils gives Lady Bulldogs the win

While the final score might not indicate as much, Swain girls’ basketball played Murphy tight for most of the night on Friday. The Bulldogs used a press defense to blitz to a large early lead and were able to maintain the cushion the rest of the game en route to a 68-51 victory.

Both of the Swain County High School cross country teams qualified for the state cross country meet with top-three finishes in Saturday’s regional meet. The teams have grown accustomed to the course at Kituwah Mound, but the wintery conditions added a new challenge to the event.

Maroon Devils basketball defeat Andrews Wildcats

Prior to Saturday, the Swain County boys basketball team last defeated Andrews in January of 2018. The Maroon Devils topped the Wildcats over the weekend to end the skid, but more impressive than what was how, as the Devils grouped skated to a 77-49 blowout victory.
