Adam McMillan, 48 years old of Whittier, NC, died at his home on October 19, 2021. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother Brian. Adam is survived, loved, and dearly missed by his mother Trudy Cottone (husband Vincent), of Washington, Ga.

Howard Richard Woody, (Woody) 65 a native of Swain County, passed away on Thursday October 21, 2021 at his childhood home, after a short battle with cancer. Richard was born September 3, 1956 to Earl Woody and Evelyn Greene Woody of Bryson City.

Mary Teresa Gillespie Chastain

Mary Teresa Gillespie Chastain, 69, of Bryson City passed away on October 18, 2021. She was born on July 29, 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Geraldine and Wilson “Doc” Shuler.

Larry “Gene” Jenkins

Larry “Gene” Jenkins, 76, of Bryson City passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Mountain View Manor Nursing Home. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Harvey and Dolly Ensley Jenkins. He lived in Del Rio, TN for 14 years. He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Marie Pitts

Marie Pitts, 83, of Whittier passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021. She was born into the home of Victor and Beulah Gasaway years ago to be their youngest child. God had already given them ten other children who were her beloved brothers and sisters.

Vernon LeRoy O’Dell

Vernon LeRoy O’Dell, 87, of Whittier passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021. A native of Michigan and longtime resident of Whittier, NC, he was the son of the late Marvin James O’Dell and Hazel Irene Carter.

Barbara Ann Truesdell

Barbara Ann Truesdell, 79, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 13, 2021. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lillie Cunningham Ogle.

Carolyn Carson Bowers Hyde Newman

Carolyn Carson Bowers Hyde Newman, 81, of Asheville passed away on September 5, 2021 at Aston Park Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Roy M. Carson and Emma V. Carson. She was also preceded in death by three loving husbands, Daniel Thurman Bowers, Jr.

Elmer Vivian Willis

Elmer Vivian Willis, 84, of Bryson City passed away on October 12, 2021.  He was born in Jackson County in 1937, to the late Herman and Ethel Hyatt. Mr. Willis worked as a pipe fitter in the construction industry and also worked at Cloer’s tire.  He served his country in the Marines.

Walter Dee Simonds (Junior)

Walter Dee Simonds (Junior), 72, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Sunday, October 3, 2021. A native of Swain County he was the son of the late Dee and Hazel Cochran Simonds. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Kenneth Simonds.
